Orforglipron (Foundayo) vs. the Wegovy pill: what's the difference?

Both are FDA-approved GLP-1 pills for weight loss in adults with obesity, or overweight plus a weight-related health problem, used with diet and exercise. The Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide, Novo Nordisk) was approved on December 22, 2025. Foundayo (orforglipron, Lilly) was approved on April 1, 2026. The Wegovy pill is also approved to lower the risk of major heart events in people with heart disease. No trial has compared the two pills directly, so their results can't be ranked against each other. Both labels carry an FDA boxed warning about a possible risk of thyroid C-cell tumors.   • In the 72-week ATTAIN-1 trial, people on the highest orforglipron dose lost an average of 11.2% of body weight, compared with 2.1% on placebo. Results come from separate trials with different people and designs, so they can't be compared directly.
